hydrogen gas could protect against chronic kidney disease

Hydrogen water is often promoted for its potential health benefits due to its antioxidant properties, primarily attributed to its ability to neutralize harmful free radicals. However, as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, there need to be more direct studies examining the effect of hydrogen water on kidney health.

Several studies have investigated the potential therapeutic effects of hydrogen gas and hydrogen-rich water in models of kidney disease.

A study published in 2011 in “Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation” found that hydrogen gas could protect against chronic kidney disease by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation in a rat model of chronic kidney disease. The researchers suggested that these protective effects might be due to the antioxidant properties of hydrogen gas.

Another study, published 2013 in the journal “Kidney International,” found that hydrogen-rich water could reduce kidney damage caused by cisplatin, a chemotherapy drug, in mice. The researchers hypothesized that the protective effects of hydrogen-rich water could be due to its ability to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation.

Although these studies suggest that hydrogen gas and hydrogen-rich water could have potential therapeutic effects on kidney disease, it’s important to note that these studies were conducted in animals, not humans. Therefore, the results of these studies may translate to something other than humans.

Furthermore, while the antioxidant properties of hydrogen water could potentially have health benefits, consuming antioxidant-rich foods and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are likely to impact overall health, including kidney health, significantly.

As of 2021, there are no specific guidelines or recommendations for the consumption of hydrogen water for kidney health, and more research is needed to understand better the potential health benefits and risks of hydrogen water. Before starting any new health regimen, consulting with a healthcare provider is always a good idea.

Remember that while it’s possible that hydrogen water could benefit kidney health, it’s essential to maintain a balanced diet, stay hydrated, limit intake of alcohol and caffeine, and avoid smoking, as these factors can all impact kidney health.

Remember that the science of hydrogen water is still evolving, and more research is needed to understand its health benefits fully.
